Tail-Wagging Nutrition: Top Tips from World of Dog Training’s Ryan Matthews

Hey dog lovers! Here at World of Dog Training in sunny Huntington Beach, we don’t just train amazing pups – we keep them healthy and happy too! As a celebrity dog trainer, I, Ryan Matthews, see all sorts of canine companions, and one of the most common questions I get is: “what’s the best way to feed my dog?”

Well, fret no more! Here are my top tips for fueling your furry friend for a lifetime of wags and zoomies:

1. Know Your Breed: Different breeds have different nutritional needs. A Great Dane pup will need a lot more food than a tiny Chihuahua! Consider your dog’s age, activity level, and any health concerns when choosing a food.

2. Quality Counts: Just like us humans, dogs thrive on good food. Look for a high-quality kibble that lists real meat as the first ingredient. Avoid fillers and artificial ingredients.

3. Portion Patrol: Don’t be fooled by those pleading puppy dog eyes! Overfeeding can lead to obesity, which puts your dog at risk for health problems. Follow the feeding guidelines on your dog’s food and adjust based on their individual needs.

4. Stick to a Schedule: Regular mealtimes help with digestion and prevent your pup from becoming a bottomless pit. Aim for two meals a day for adult dogs, and consult your vet for puppy feeding schedules.

5. Fresh is Fun!: While kibble is a great base, consider adding some fresh, dog-safe fruits and veggies like blueberries, apples, or carrots for a nutritional boost and a taste sensation. Cooked lean meats or eggs can also be a welcome addition. Remember: Always consult your vet before introducing new foods.

Bonus Tip: Water is essential! Make sure your dog has constant access to fresh, clean water.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure your dog gets the nutrients they need to live a long, healthy, and happy life. Remember, a healthy pup is a trainable pup, so you’ll be amazed at the progress you can make together!
